Changes in our climate and weather can affect health and wellbeing in many ways. Extreme temperatures, flooding, air quality, infectious diseases, and disruption to food, water and essential services can all have consequences for individuals, communities and public services.
This Health Needs Assessment brings together the available evidence to explain what these risks may mean for Suffolk. It considers who and which places may be most affected, how impacts may differ across the population, and what practical, proportionate action could help prevent harm, reduce health inequalities and strengthen local preparedness.
About this needs assessment
The Protecting Our Health in a Changing Climate Health Needs Assessment has been developed as a modular programme of work. This approach allows individual chapters to be published as they are completed, reviewed and approved, while contributing to a wider understanding of the health impacts of climate change in Suffolk.
Published chapters (October 2026):
Additional chapters will be published over time as further evidence reviews and analyses are completed. This phased approach enables timely access to evidence while supporting the ongoing development of a comprehensive climate and health needs assessment.
