Healthy Living Pharmacies
Public Health Suffolk funds the training and development for pharmacy teams to reach level 2 accreditation to become a Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP).
The HLP scheme develops the traditional role of a pharmacy from dispensing medication and the sale of over the counter products to more direct interventions when it comes to supporting people to lead healthier lifestyles.
An estimated 70% of people who visit pharmacies do not regularly access other health care services, making them uniquely placed to reach a greater population of people with targeted health advice. Healthy Living Pharmacies work closely with GP practices, schools, colleges, leisure facilities, places of worship and the wider community to deliver important health messages.
HLPs provide enhanced face to face support to keep people healthy, from quitting smoking to losing weight. Evidence shows that Healthy Living Pharmacies are more effective at delivering smoking quits, making alcohol interventions and a range of other healthy lifestyle services.
